( KOROTANY ) A constitution awareness event dedicated to the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was held at Guru Ravidass Dharmshala in Bhattian village on Sunday.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi attended the event as chief guests.

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond announced a grand statue of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar would be installed within three months at Amloh Chowk in Khanna, already named after him after demands raised by Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi. Additionally, he also allocated Rs. 10 lakh from his discretionary quota for Bhattian village and announced that one of the four newly approved Aam Aadmi Clinics would be established in the Bhattian area, alongside the six already operational in Khanna.

Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi thanked Minister Sond for the announcements and said he, along with the Dalit community, would participate in large numbers at the statue’s inauguration. He highlighted that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has been diligently working to realize Dr. Ambedkar’s dreams since taking office.

Garhi described the Indian Constitution as one of the world’s finest and emphasized it as the last hope for justice for marginalized communities. He credited Ambedkar’s foresight for ensuring the Constitution protects every citizen’s rights, particularly those of the oppressed. Calling Dr. Ambedkar a messiah for securing legal protections for marginalized communities, Garhi stressed that education is key to eliminating discrimination and inequality. He added that the Punjab government is upgrading infrastructure and education standards in government schools, ensuring quality education for children from poor families.

Garhi stated that the Punjab government is the first in India to install portraits of Dr. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in all government offices as symbols of inspiration. He encouraged youth to read Ambedkar’s literature to adopt his teachings for building a healthy society and nation.

Khanna Market Committee Chairman Jagtar Singh Gill Ratnheri, AAP leader Dr. Jaspreeet Singh Beeja, Additional Advocate General Punjab Dharminder Singh Lamba and others were also present.
